ABOUT VIRGINIA HEALTH SERVICES
The Quality of Life in Today's Society
Eventually there comes a time when someone you love cannot care for their personal needs. Perhaps you fear for their safety and well being because of their lack of mobility or clear thinking. Because you want what is best for them, you must consider a convalescent and rehabilitation center such as ours.
At Virginia Health Services, Inc., we know that you, the decision-maker, may need professional guidance as you make this difficult decision for your parent or someone you love. We know it is not an easy process, but we are here to help you make the changes as easily and compassionately as possible.
We
do our best to provide our residents with the optimum quality of life in their
new surroundings. We call our facilities "homes away from home"
because our emphasis is on helping seniors live their lives to the fullest
with dignity and self-esteem. To do this, we provide 24-hour nursing care
and professional attention. We offer rehabilitation by on-site, trained physical,
occupational, and speech therapists. We also accommodate Medicare-certified
Skilled Care patients.
We apply innovative ideas to everyday living in warm, home-like settings. We encourage social participation, activities and interaction to keep our residents mentally and physically alert. Our goal is to have them realize their fullest potential as self-sufficient and dignified individuals. In many cases only short-term care is necessary. To meet this need we at Virginia Health Services, Inc. provide rehabilitation to return these adults to their highest levels of functioning so that they can return home.
Hand-in-Hand Professional Care and Medical Attention
One of the distinguishing features of Virginia Health Services is our excellent medical care.
Although most residents have their own physicians, we can help you select a physician that will provide ongoing care. We also provide emergency services by on-call physicians and hospitals at all times. Our physicians are backed by our 24-hour-a-day Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nurses Assistants who are oriented specifically for gerontological care. Our staff keeps abreast of health care for the elderly through on-going continuing education.
Skilled Care for Special Needs
A significant number of those we serve are treated for rehabilitative needs arising from accidents, injuries, or unexpected medical conditions. These people are candidates for Skilled Care, a medical designation for long- or short-term care for patients joining us directly from the hospital who need a higher level of nursing, rehabilitative and medical care on a 24-hour basis.
Skilled Care includes the services of licensed therapists who are experts at occupational, physical, and speech rehabilitation. For those who meet the medical requirements, Medicare or other insurance carriers may provide up to 100 days of Skilled Care per benefit period.
New Dimensions in Life
We go to great lengths to create a social atmosphere and encourage interactivity. Our activity directors plan daily calendars of events, such as sing-alongs, bingo, exercise groups, and arts and crafts programs. We host entertainment groups from our communities and our bus transports residents to special events, shopping excursions, and restaurants.
Meals - another opportunity for socializing -
are all "home-cooked," and our licensed dietitian selects from a
list of “in-season" foods available to keep our menus fresh and
exciting. We also accommodate residents who require
doctor-ordered individual diets.
Although our doors are equipped with security systems, we encourage residents to move about freely, to seek companionship in common areas and to visit with fellow residents. We also provide monitoring devices for those with the tendency to wander.
We encourage our residents to participate in our Resident Councils so they have a voice and can make suggestions about the community in which they reside. We encourage good grooming, and each of our facilities has a beauty salon. We emphasize and respect residents' spirituality and have religious services in each facility. All of our services are designed to offer residents rich, rewarding lives.
